—
Unlike spontaneous and instantaneous photography, Patrick Van der Elst’s approach lies more on an intense reflection combined with long clinical sceneries that question our era. While constantly displaying the morbid innocence of plastic dolls, of young girls modestly naked, or young children with a melancholic eye, he approaches sex, the society of consumption, religion and the world of money in his own way.
Bio
Patrick Van der Elst, born on 18 May 1969, lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. He’s a self-made man, and passionately entered the world of photography in a natural way.
His source of inexhaustible inspiration lies in his encounters, what he reads, his day-to-day and especially his experience as a doctor. His work encapsulates surgical beauties, framing them with sweet sensuality bathed in poetic visages.
Patrick Van der Elst doesn’t seek to focus his work on his own features or personal history. He uses objects, models, toys, figurines, and rubber babies to share straightforward stories with us through a personal language, mixed with an eye for detail that can only impress his audience.

They look like normal people, but they are not. At all. They are heroes. They have been able to leave theirs behind: parents, siblings, children, home, the city or town where they were born, the corner where you got the first kiss, perhaps a love that waits impatiently on another continent a phone call to recover the voice of his/her beloved which embarcad with the sad eco of a locutorio.
They are people who have traveled around the world. Not everyone in the same way, certainly. Some, probably, for that brightness that are looming on the look they had to buy the ticket to the very death. A ticket, on many occasions is only one way.
And then they had the courage to get here, leaving behind everything that gives us the feeling of belonging a group in the folds of the last sheet that sheltered them before leaving. And now far from consoling to live in the memory of the feel and smell of that sheet they have made a cape. The cape of heroes.
They have had the courage and the courage to leave all that and live without that refreshing embrace that they used to have. That comforts you, that helps you overcome the bumps, gives you the encouragement to continue. Certainly they have to lie under those gestures that are mínimum but at the same time fills entirely.
I admit that it would be unable to live without those, do you?

Would we be able to count how many times we look without paying any attention?
Often we are left with the superficiality of things without wanting to be part of it. Watch or direct look is not the same as observing intently.
Observing is feeling, touching to get carried away by indescribable sensations and begin to question why everything. When we talk about fashion there are not only those last minute nerves or girls who are exposed to the public behind the curtain. They are people who share complicity between scenes, looks that are lost to nowhere. Trying to capture stories hidden behind each dress, wrapped their cherished privacy and silence which do not seek to pretend or being anyone but themselves. Each story has an end but in each of these images, each end is a new beginning.Observe .

Zita Vehil Riera, Barcelona, 1978

.. or as traditional beauty undergoes a change by chance, an almost absolute destruction. The fragments are not breaking the image, but they give a smooth texture, acquiring specific characteristics under destructive agent to them. Romantic, decadent or industrial images; burned or bubbling liquid oily colors. A grey and functional sunken city in a psychedelic pool; modern architecture in decay.
These are my cities.

Most of the time the reality is manifested directly and explicitly without hesitations or filters. The photography reveals it in all it’s magnificence.
«Oculto» reflects an evoked, suggested reality. Traces of a step, hidden objects, implied situations, veiled and intimate landscapes…
Different characters and moments immersed in the same invisibility, away from the noise and mimicked silently in the reality.

Beside the technological element of the artistic development, «Incommunicados» of Paco Puentes is presented . In his series, Sevillian photographer is inspired by the materials related to the current communication, taking them out of context and supplementing them with collage to present a small-picture windows which lead us to think about the obsolescence of the material elements. In his pieces, the nostalgia of communication is extracted, in the search of a lost aura of the current image.

The framed encounters by Angela take you through their multiple tracks. Here’s a crowd, solidarity in their belief that a better world is possible, for you also if you rush there, some obvious thing, photographing a crowd: where is the center? Where’s the accent? Where is the key gesture? Her portraits always reflect humanity to tenderness.
Here a child, his eyes mark the intimacy of sharing and unbridgeable distance of time and space (however, each child opens up to her and offers miraculously, a silent and timeless confession).
Here’s a landscape, near or far, simple and resonant detail that often live, if we look slowly we surely be lost there. Angela makes us a bridge, introduces us to these great people and the majesty of her people, with a deep humility.
With her camera, her eyes, she opens us to the poetry of the forms found by chance.
Her instinct for spoken solitude, for correspondence of unexpected elements, teaches us that there is always someone else, others elsewhere, with whom we complement keeps us in dialogue until then unnoticed except for the look of Angela.

ONLY ONE is an art project between documentary photography and fashion, which reflects the relationship between the individual self and our behavior as social beings, particularly in relation to how we dress.
Long since the clothes are ceased to be just the element of protection from the environment. Clothing formed and forms the part of our culture and how our culture evolved and changed.
One of the properties of the clothing and the fashion industry today is the ability to give us to communicate, to express who we are (or have you believe in). Clothing is one of the first things we use to communicate with our environment.
What happens when you can only choose one item of clothing? From this question ONLY ONE was born.

The «Barber Vicenç Moretó» is a photographic project that represents a space, but also an ideology and an era which was believed that was lost.
The project shows a barber in Barcelona, his daily life, yet the way in which being part of a global movement that is the reinvention of the barbershops. During the project one could live and see the different facets, from shaving a customer who attends the barber for over 30 years to a fashion shooting for advertising.
With the impulse of these projects, it’s expected that the barber shops have a diffusion and we all return to shave in that leather chair, with a sharp knife and a whisky at the end.

Create images and projects with which people can feel identified and in return generate a little more visual harmony in the environment. He believes in that if all we do is created with imagination, hard work and dedication we would live in a more creative world and full of exquisite spaces that exist only in the minds of some artists.

Whoever loses the memory of his roots, loses focus and with it the ability to remain the actor of his own life. For thousands of years women have lived under the patriarchal authority and its daily commandments. Caught in the lattice of her own family, society or creed, women lowered their self-esteem and undermined their power to decide over their own life or the world around them, leading them to even consider themselves as second class citizens.
Trapped in a prison of roles, women have come to reduce their social power, self-esteem, the ability of decision over their own life or over the world they live in. However, life depends on them: they are the Mother, the hand that plants the seeds, in charge of the household management, among many other things – since our species is born, and even more since we became sedentary.
During five years Jordi Oliver has traveled the world photographing these women, in Africa, India, Romania, Tahiti… This project is a tribute to women and their daily struggle for their rights
